LUST
Lust, the moment you hear this word a series of images
come across your mind, certain notions start resurfacing. Lust today is
expressed and understood mostly in negative sense
Now a-days its meaning and imagery has been well
distorted via media of course. We fail to understand its aesthetics. Irony is
our ancestors from so many years back wrote volumes over it. They grasped the
substance in it.
Lust is real beauty. It is the essence of beauty, the
way you feel the beauty in anything that way is lustrous. I have often heard
them saying love should not be confused with lust, and to be honest for quite a
long time I too believed in that. It is only now that I gave it a serious
thought and here I am expressing.
The feminine and masculine aspects of nature are its only
essence. ‘Purush’ and ‘Prakriti’ as the ‘Sankhya philosophy’ describes form
this nature. It is the interplay of these two elements or energies or powers
whatever way you want to term them. When
you observe the way these two elements of nature involve with each other, you
see beautiful things manifesting from this union. And this world we live in is
one such thing. Just like in certain chemical reactions effervescence is
produced and through it you know that the reaction has taken place. Same way
what we call ‘beauty’ is the effervescence of this reaction between “purush and
prakriti”, feminine and masculine. Now lust is the base of this beauty. Lust is
the seed. Just as a tree lies in the seed un-manifested, similarly beauty lies
inside the womb of lust and manifests itself when given certain condition for
it.
You look around beautiful valleys and praise the vibrancy,
the fragrance in the air, you look at certain flowers and you just want to keep
looking at it, why? Is it the red or yellow color that keeps your gaze stuck
there? Or is it the stimulus on your olfactory sensors, which seems quite a
dead explanation of how your praise for the smell. You feel beauty of anything
from inside. You get attracted to opposite gender when you look at them, and
yeah I have heard this one a lot: “It is not love at first sight but lust”. I think
this is a wrong assumption because they fail to understand the true meaning of
lust. Lust is that seed inside you that forms a part of your existence. The
reproduction instincts are the attributes of this seed. You can’t define these
instincts by lust. It is lust that lies as both effect and cause and Advaita school
of thought establishes that cause and effect are indifferent. All the emotions
arise out of lust or you may say that all of it can be resolved into lust. At first
look it may seem impossible but that’s the way it is. It is the interplay
between nature’s two elements that forms this world so it’s safe to say so that
lust is at the base of every emotion you can experience.
When I look at the landscapes I feel an urge to get
lost into those lands, into that beautiful blue sky, I want to become a part of
those lovely flowers, I want to flow around with that fragrance, it is love
that I feel for it. It was lust that formed the basis of this love because I am
composed of those two elements of nature as the landscapes and other things
are. I am bound to get attracted towards it.
Lust is not just physical intimacy as many believe. That
intimacy is feels so pure and sacred. In the act of doing it they forget their
independent existence and become united. The love between two souls is so
beautiful. It’s the purest form of lust. The expression of this love when felt
within makes me realize the unity in two souls. They seem two but are one. When
they involve with each other, they experience something beyond expression, it
is so mystic and I guess this is why we are drawn towards it because we know it
is there.
The same way when you look at beauty of nature, don’t
you feel at one with it? Then isn't that too lust? Well, lust is the seed of
this unified consciousness. Limited are the minds that deny it. Maybe they
haven’t yet felt the unity.
Lust is what we feel every time. It is a way of life, it is our emotion our
intelligence. It is like that ever pervading force field through which we live
and act. Lust is in our talks, in our love food, in our favorite song or movie.
Lust is the quintessence of our feelings.
